Biography
Growing up in a mixed-status family means I know first-hand the holes and barriers within the United States health system. I was personally ineligible for Medicaid as a child due to my immigration status, but my younger brother was eligible. I never had the privilege of getting annual check-ups, dental cleanings, or simply getting sick. My brother did because he was a citizen. Health equity means that no one, regardless of race, age, immigration status, language, socio-economic background, etc., will ever be denied quality and accessible health care without fear of discrimination or inability to pay.
