Admissions
The program is currently only open to students that have graduated from an American HBCU, an American HSI, or Rhode Islanders.
Yes, any graduate who meets the criteria may apply, no matter how much time has passed since receiving an undergraduate degree, or if other advanced degrees have been earned.
The Health Equity Scholars Program is a full-time residential program located in Providence, RI.
Your MPH acceptance and Health Equity Scholars acceptance will be offered simultaneously.
The exact date varies from year to year but decisions are usually sent mid-March.
Yes. Learning about your interest in and commitment to health equity, including any relevant past experience, is important to the admissions committee.
Research Assistantship
Yes, as long as students remain in good academic standing and maintain a B average.
The program will assist in identifying opportunities; however, students should feel free to explore additional opportunities.
Students are not required to work, but in order to receive the full RA stipend, they may work up to 20 hours.
No, those activities are a separate requirement of the program that do not count towards hours worked.

Tuition and Fees
Yes, as long as students remain in good academic standing and maintain a B average.
In addition to full tuition, the HES program covers all fees (except for health insurance) as well as a book allowance per semester.
Yes, some Scholars apply for small loans to help offset the cost of living, books, and other financial responsibilities.
All MPH students are required to complete The MPH Practicum, which is a hands-on learning experience that is done with the agency or organization of the student’s choosing. Many students opt to complete their Practicum, which requires 145 hours, during the summer between the first and second year of the MPH program.
We want HES students to complete their Practicum at an organization that they are passionate about, regardless of the hosting organization’s ability to pay students. To support students’ Practicum choices, up to $5,000 is available to Scholars who take an unpaid or underpaid Practicum internship.

Yes, there are a few Graduate housing options available:
No, you may select any concentration.
You must declare a concentration by the end of your first semester.
Yes, as long as you can complete the concentration’s graduation requirements in the allotted amount of time.
