Alan has been coaching for 15 years, supporting people through the various challenges they face as founders and leaders of impact-oriented organizations and companies and as they navigate transitions in their lives and careers. Alan helps his clients navigate with greater clarity and intention around what’s important to them and how they feel most alive, to live with purpose. Living purposefully is a source of meaning and a driving force for effective leadership.
His practice developed during his tenure as the founding Director of the Social Innovation Initiative at Brown University’s Swearer Center from 2007-17. Under his leadership, Brown was a pioneer in supporting student entrepreneurs with curriculum, technical skills, funding and mentorship, with a focus on ventures designed to address social problems. His understanding of innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership were developed through his experiences in technology consulting and turnaround management.
In addition to his leadership and personal growth coaching, he has been a lecturer in Social Entrepreneurship at Brown University, a volunteer mentor to founders through several startup accelerators, and an engaged citizen through his engagement in several non-profit boards.
Alan received his B.S. from the Wharton School and his coaching certification from the International Coaching Federation. He lives in Cranston, RI but spends as much time in the Colorado mountains which brings him closer to his three grown children (and their dogs). He enjoys many outdoor activities with his wife ranging from sculling on the Seekonk River, hiking and cross-country skiing in the mountains, scuba diving and adventure travels.
